Péter Barbalics, producer

Barbalics studied media-communication at University of Szeged. In 1994 he was chosen as the Producer of The Year in Hungary. He was a founding member of the Hungarian Independent Producers Association. Barbalics is a member of the Hungarian Film Academy. Barbalics was a guest professor at the Theater and Film Academy of Budapest 1994-1998.

  • In 1994 he received the European Film Award from the European Film Academy in Berlin for his film Woyzeck.
  • His earlier films have been selected for different festivals /Cannes Fipresci award, Chicago, Karlovy Vary/.
  • In 2003 he produced the film Fateless, an adaptation of, Nobel Prize winner Hungarian author, Imre Kertész’s novel.
    It was nominated for the Berlinale 2005 as well as for the Academy Awards by Hungary.
    The film’s composer was Ennio Morricone
  • Three more of the films he produced were nominated for the Academy Awards: We Never Die, Woyzeck, and Vaska Easoff.
  • We Never Die, made in 1994, was the most popular Hungarian film in that year and won a MUOSZ Special Prize.
  • Founded Art Deco Film in 2011 as main producer. Currently several films are being developed by the company.
